Etiology of CFS



From the minutes of the October 2008 meeting of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Advisory Committee (CFSAC)


Dr. Glaser asked what new approaches the CDC is using to determine the etiology of CFS.

Dr. Monroe said that etiology may not necessarily be part of the GCRC study, noting the potential time lag between when a patient is identified and when he or she is evaluated.

Response from the Centers for Disease Control to Osler’s Web upon its publication in 1996:

“…Tom Skinner, a spokesman for the CDC, said his agency has gotten numerous inquiries about the allegations raised in Ms. Johnson’s book but is neither investigating them nor commenting on them.

‘We have not reviewed her book, and will not comment on her book and are not going to,’ Skinner said.”
